The Northern branch of MSA was reactivated on 23rd May 2009 at Vistana Hotel, Penang.

The Northern branch was first inaugurated on 5 December 1986 at Universiti Sains Malaysia with Prof Ishak T. Kechik as the first Chairman. Through the years, it has served the members from Penang and other northern states like Kedah and Perlis. The initiative to relaunch it by the current Council of MSA paves the way to give it a new zest of life in promoting Science and Technology in the north. The strong turnout of 13 council members of MSA augurs well for close co-operation between MSA Council members from Kuala Lumpur and the Northern branch. Two of the inaugural office bearers in 1986, that is, Prof. Dato' Muhammad Idris Saleh and Mr Yeoh Guan Aun are in the new team. It is hoped that this continuity and the enthusiasm shown at the relaunch will open a new era for both the northern branch and MSA.
